Your Guide to Buying a Pontoon Boat
In the market for a new pontoon? Then we have the perfect article for you! Because these boats are so unique, we’ve written up a guide to help first-time buyers who are unfamiliar with a pontoon’s unique features. If you have questions about pontoons, or how to buy one, come visit us here in Nisswa, Marine and speak with one of our expert sales staff.
Pontoons
Unlike the majority of boats on the market today, pontoons use large buoyant cylinders (also called pontoons) to keep afloat in the water. On most models, you'll find two pontoons attached to each side of the vessel, with larger models including an extra one underneath the deck. While these larger boats are great for navigating deep waters, they can be almost impossible to maneuver through rivers and small lakes. Before you grab your model off the lot, consider which body of water you prefer, and how many pontoons it requires.
Space
Often referred to as ‘party boats’, pontoons come equipped with a ton of seating and deck space to accommodate a large number of people. However, you’ll still want to carefully consider how many people, and how much cargo, you plan to bring along on your next outing. If you’re not careful, you may end up selecting a model without enough space for all of your passengers and cargo.
Amenities
Pontoons are designed to be all-purpose vessels. They can come in a variety of different sizes and have a wide range of pre-installed amenities available. As a result, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by choice when visiting the dealership for the first time. To avoid this situation, we advise making a short list of features you’d like your pontoon to have to help narrow down your options.
