Getting out on the water on your own boat can be incredibly relaxing, literally putting distance between you and civilization as a whole. But being on your own out there means you’ll need to be prepared, and there are always a few extra items that can make your boat really stand out.

We here at Nisswa Marine have talked about boating accessories before, but there’s always more to discover, so we’ve put together a few more you might be interested in, below. To learn more, or to see the boating accessories we have for sale, contact our store in Nisswa, Minnesota, today!

Boat Cover

As hardy as your boat may be, it’s still vulnerable to the elements, to pests, and to prying eyes and sticky fingers. If you want to keep it in good condition (and keep it where you left it), then you may want to invest in a boat cover. Sunlight can fade colors and dry out wood and rubber, rain can create mildew and mold, and pests can leave gross debris and scratch up the interior. Avoid all that with a well-fitted boat cover.

Flags

Given that we share Lake Superior with Canada, it can be a good idea to fly the U.S. flag on your boat to help navigate and keep communications tidy. You may also want to add in a custom flag showing your favorite university, teams, or other things you enjoy! That gives your boat some extra personality, but it also makes it easier to find at crowded marinas or for guests you’ve invited to join you on a ride.

Repair Tools

Another practical and important bit of kit to keep with you is some repair tools and materials. If there’s a minor issue or something that might prevent you from returning to the dock, you want to be able to handle it then and there. Duct tape and electrical tape can be good for holding things together underwater or patching small holes since they’re water-resistant. An extra propeller and the wrenches necessary to replace it can ensure you get where you need to.

Portable Charger

And of course, you’re going to want something to keep all your devices charged. Whether your boat is older or just has limited plugs, it’s a good idea to have a backup to ensure you can stay in touch with the outside world without cutting into your fuel supply.

We hope these suggestions help keep your next boating adventure smooth! For more information, or to see the boating accessories we have available, contact us at Nisswa Marine. We proudly serve the people of Minneapolis and St. Cloud, Minnesota—let us serve you today!
