How To Decorate Your Boat Interior
Owning a boat is a lot of fun, and it can be incredibly fulfilling—but does it really feel like you? It can be hard to really relate to your boat if it’s still for the standard-issue materials and setup inside. We here at Nisswa Marine want you to enjoy every aspect of your boat, so we’ve put together some tips for decorating the interior of your boat. If you want to learn more, or you want to see the boats we have for sale, contact our store in Nisswa, Minnesota, today!
Mood Lighting
Your boat’s interior lighting might be sufficient, but it’s probably not very inspiring. Switch it up with LED lights, which are safe, long-lasting, bright, and power efficient! Rope or string lights can be tacked up around the perimeter of the ceiling or seats or you can rely on smaller battery-powered lamps. LED candles can give your boat a romantic touch without the risks of fire.
Blankets And Throw Pillows
Boat furniture is designed to be easy to clean and water-resistant, but that doesn’t always lend itself to comfort or coziness. Throw in some blankets or afghans and some throw pillows to soften it up! Wool and fleece are both water-resistant and very warm, but old quilts and relative-made afghans can give it a more personal feel.
Of course, we recommend coordinating throw pillows and sheets with matching colors or patterns. You could go with a nautical theme (lighthouses, mermaids, etc) or just pick a color or pattern you like.
Careful Choices
Of course, many forms of decor you might enjoy at home just won’t work with the marine environment. Humidity, choppy waves, and more all mean anything aboard is liable to get wet. Paper decorations, for instance, might be good for a temporary addition, but would get waterlogged and tear if present in the long-term.
Glass is delicate, and dangerous, so plastics, fabrics, and wood are safer bets. Ornaments and baubles of any kind are alright if you can find a shatter-proof version to keep them from splintering. Lighter-weight decorations are also better than heavy items that could cause an injury. Think ahead to make sure decorations don’t get in peoples’ way or put them at risk.
Anything you mount should be secured to the wall so even choppy waves won’t knock them down. And of course, you don’t want any fire hazards aboard. Still keep a fire extinguisher around, just in case, but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
